More about this scene
This spacious village was built around the estate of the Coates family, who lived at Helperby Hall. In 1873 they provided the residents with a billiard room, and in 1897 built the artesian well to commemorate 60 years of Queen Victoria's reign. The petrol station and the nearby brewery have been converted to private houses, and so has the old Methodist church of St Cuthbert. The village post office, near the bus (right), remains.
