Helmshore, Musbury Tor c.1960

I went to Helmshore primary school in the early 60s. A great time in my life. Mr Jenkinson was the headmaster at the time. I would like to find some of my school friends. I’m Peter Metcalf and have brothers Andy and Raymond. Thanks Pete Metcalf.

My favourite uncle and auntie lived in Brooklands Avenue and we often use to have Sunday tea with them. I lived in Helmshore at Holmevale known to the locals as Snighole. My Great grandparents built the residence known simply as the Bunglow. I was born in 1954 attended the local primary school .I have many happy memories of playing in the memorial gardens and on the park and was very saddened by the state of the gardens now they were once kept in a pristine condition by Charlie the park gardener and on most Sundays in the ...see more

I was born in Musbury Road at the bottom of Tor Hill and spent 5 years with Tor as my back yard; my name is still chiselled in the rocks at the top. Anyone remember the Tor Mile race? In 1955 we moved up to 3, Lancaster Avenue, the first of the new batch of Council houses built there.
