Growing Up In Gorton

A Memory of Gorton.

I was born at 7 Sandown Crescent in 1946. I now live in Vancouver Canada but my Aunt Win still lives in the same house.
I remember playing football on the Mellons fields on Saturday mornings,
Billy Butt, Nick Butt's uncle, used to play with us. I went to the Sacred Heart School with Pat Morrisroe and Greg Thompson. Our teacher was Mr Lee.
We had some great times growing up. My last visit was in 2007, how it has changed since those days. The local pub was all boarded up and there was no fish and chip shop any more.
We used to hang around the old army camp at night and weekends or go across from the camp to the dirt track where we would race our bikes. If we were not there we could be found on Jacksons clay pit riding the 'wall of death', as we use to call it. "He He, Great Times they were". You would be gone in the morning and tell your parents "We will be back at 5 for dinner", they didn’t have to worry about you like they would today.

Pat Morrisroe is my uncle! It is great that you remember your school days at Sacred Heart with him. My dad went there too (Leo Morrisroe). The next time I see him I'll mention you to him, Tony. Hope all is well in Vancouver.
Best wishes,
Gary Morrisroe (Warrington)
I remember Leo;. also your uncle Mike; he learned me to play guitar. at stainton avenue. I still play to this day in a band and i'm turning 67 this year. I still keep in touch with pat and he came to Vancouver to visit us several years back got blind drunk and did a great impersonation of mick jagger. ask him about it.
when did you leave 11 Sandown cresent what year
Thanks for getting back - sorry for delayed response! Yes, uncle Mike was a keen player. Great to hear you're still playing in a band. I saw uncle Pat a few weeks ago ... He can still do a decent Jagger impression (even though he looks more like Bill Wyman really!?). Hope all is well in Canada. Gary
Hi Gary
Im trying to get in contact with your uncle pat. He was good mates of my dad Jack Holmes. My dad has just sadly passed away. Can you pass the message on for me if it's possible.
Thanks
