Aspinal Primary And Ryder Brow Secondary
A Memory of Gorton.
I was at Aspinal county Primary School in Gorton, there was a terrible teacher there who wore clogs and used to rap our knuckles. I remember my best friend Jennifer Johnson, who lived near the Rota cinema.
In 1956 or thereabouts I moved to the dreaded Ryder Brow Secondary School, where I was strapped in assembly with others, on a few occasions, for the most trivial of things. That school was a nightmare for me. The headmaster was Mr Lloyd-Jones, who was very harsh.
I remember there Billy Lally, Anne Greenhalgh, Susan Gath, Margaret white, Stephanie Nicklin, Anne Pearson, Elaine Fox, Sandra Fletcher, and Harry Kelly.
My Mother was widowed in 1952 so things were a struggle for us then.
I don't really have happy memories of either school, but I do have fond memories of Gorton, where it was quiet and there was a stonemasons, an old farmhouse, a canal, Debdale Park. Long summers outdoors, and snowy winters - or is this old age?
