More about this scene
Church Street leads from the Market Square down to the Lancaster Canal, where a basin facilitated the handling of cargo on and off the barges. Beyond the trees lies St Thomas' Church, where in 1997 a painting hanging on its walls, 'Ecce Homo', was realised to be an original work by Annebella Carracci; it was subsequently valued at £5 million.
