The jettied Crown Hotel (left) dates from c1550, with a Victorian mock-Tudor front. The central archway is now filled in with a wooden Gothic-style door. The Victorian Barclay's Bank beyond has delightful carved heads over the door and windows. Beyond is No 26, now William Brown, which has the best timber framing in the town. The hairdresser's shop of C Moore (straight ahead) has become a restaurant, whose frontage now includes the right-hand window. Is the military jeep (centre) waiting for the horse and tumbrel to move?

The Crown Hotel
The Crown Hotel was my first management position within Trust House Forte Hotels in 1972 I worked under Roger Germanier and later with George and Audrey Youssef...I just remember my time there as being very happy and very busy. Living At

My parents took over the Castle Inn about 1960-61 when I was 4-5 years old. We'd come a long way from Yorkshire!! I remember the wall surrounding the pond - sitting on it and imagining it was a horse! I remember the pond being drained but cannot remember the year, then it was 'modernised'. Tenants At 14 Fore Steet
We rented 14 Fore Street from the Jecks-Wrights from 1971-1973. My husband, was stationed at RAF Bentwaters and he used to work evenings at the Trust House Forte Hotel. Mrs Jecks-Wright would stop by almost every morning and take our daughter, Helen, with her to the market. King Sweet Shop Market Hill Maria Stannard Nee Creasey
My aunt and uncle were Gladys and Ted King who had a little sweet shop on Market Hill in the 1950's & early 1960's. I spent many happy hours helping in the shop and remember the large shoe size boxes which held the sweets and the scales used for weighing them out. Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
