More about this scene
Because Egremont was a newly-laid-out town, the streets were mostly straight and wide. King Street ran parallel to the Promenade, and was a very busy thoroughfare. Here we see a Wallasey tram on the crowded single track part of the street. Wallasey was very proud of its Corporation Transport Department, and would do anything to match or better Birkenhead's efforts. Though they are now one, as Wirral, there was for 75 years a very healthy rivalry between the two.
