More about this scene

Between the underground station and the parish church, this is a wonderful neo-Tudor pub of 1936 by A E Sewell; he also designed the Crown and Anchor in High Street, Chipping Barnet, and the Goat near Forty Hill, Enfield, in the same style for the brewers Truman, Hanbury and Buxton. Detail, both internally and externally, is paramount, from the clustered brick chimney stacks to the beautifully-carved brackets supporting the jettying. It is a great pity that the off-sales wing, seen here to the right of the main building, has for some time been in a shabby rundown condition.

A Selection of Memories from Edgware

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Edgware

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I remember the boys club on Chandos crescent we used to go there 2 or 3 nights a week. All harmless innocent fun growing up around Edgware in early 1970's I lived on Buckingham Road and went to school in St Thomas at Canons Park. Thats now gone just memories left. Good ones does anybody remember me. Derek Doyle. It would be great to hear from anyone who grew up and lived around Edgware in the late 1960's early 70's Thanks
I was a 15 year old in 1954 when this picture was taken. I was a pupil at Hendon Technical College in that year I and started work at Stanley J Lee the Drapery and Fashion store opposite the station. I worked there on Saturdays and during the School Holidays for 3 years whilst studying O/L and A/Ls. During this time I worked assisting the Window Dresser, also in most of the various departments providing cover when ...see more
Colin, I love these memories of yours and can remember just about all of it. When were you at Edgware Primary and Spur Road?
I lived in Edgware from birth in 1959 until 1983 so saw a lot of changes, it was a great place to grow up and I will try to share more detailed memories soon. My primary school was Aylward (technically in Stanmore) and I have been trying to trace contact details for David Barber, who would have been at Aylward roughly from 1964 to 1970. He did me a kindness once that will have seemed small to him at the time but ...see more
