The first master plan drawn up by Henry Currey, the Duke of Devonshire's surveyor, covered the stucco seaside terrace and squares. After 1870 Currey produced his second master plan for the areas around the hamlet of Meads, this time for tree-lined streets of villas and houses in grounds that led to this western development being nicknamed 'The Belgravia of Eastbourne'. Meads Road, of course, had old trees already: a villa is seen on the right, and on the left carriages shelter from the sun alongside the flint wall fronting Saffrons Park, now a sports ground. Devonshire Baths
I was born in Eastbourne, Upperton Road Nursing Home. I have fond memories of being taken by my Father to the Devonshire swimming baths. This would have been between 1964 to 1967 I would have been 5 or 6 years old. Through the large wooden entrance doors. Paid sixpence or a shilling then decended the many flights of stairs down. Fairlea Meads
My grandmother appears as a cooks assistant at a school at Fairlea Meads ,Chesterfield Road in Eastbourne. Sadly I cannot find any photos of the building.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hampden Park
In 1977 we bought our first house in Hampden Park. I was working as a nurse at Eastbourne DGH in Kings Drive. I remember walking through the park at the start and end of my shifts. In the spring the park was carpeted with crocus's which was the most beautiful site. I hope they are still there today.

Eastbourne Holiday 1960s
We stayed in a Guest House in Bourne Street. Mr and Mrs Collignon ran it. Full board. She was an ex nurse and taught me how to make beds. Little did she know I would be a nurse. They were very friendly. Thought it was quite posh to have sinks in our rooms, but then had to share a bathroom. It was the time of the Pirate Radios.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
