More about this scene
The MacBrayne steamer, Columba, picks up speed as she pulls away from Dunoon. Built in 1878, and flagship of the MacBrayne fleet, Columba was renowned for the quality of her passenger comfort, with saloons the full width of her hull, a barber's shop and a post office. When first commissioned, she was placed on the up-market daily run from Glasgow to Tarbert and Ardrishaig, by way of Greenock, Dunoon, Rothesay and the Kyles of Bute.
