More about this scene
'The one desire of every true Briton on first coming to Dorking is to follow Sam Weller as he descends from the Arundel coach to the Marquis of Granby. The Marquis, it is true, had no more life outside Dickens's brain than Sam himself, but its counterpart in our everyday world is said to have lain in North Street, the King's Head, a vast establishment in the 18th century, now vanished, like the Post Office that succeeded it'.
