More about this scene
The old Town Hall (centre right) was built in 1752 on the site of the old Guildhall; the front is thought to have come from a demolished mansion. The lower part was originally open, and was used for the selling of eggs, butter and cheese. In 1836 it became the premises of the wine merchant William Cunnington, and extensive cellars run under the road and the buildings on the opposite side of the street.
