Crewe, Market Street c.1960

More about this scene
Returning to the Square, we are once again looking at Market Street. The main change that immediately strikes the visitor today is that the lovely old Victorian Barclays Bank building (right) has gone, to be replaced by yet another typical 1960s monstrosity. What were the town planners doing? Surely they could at least have kept the old façade. Many other buildings further up the street have also been replaced.
