Post Office Road was originally called New Road. In the days before Crawley acquired 'New Town' status, it was the town's business centre, eventually changing its name to Post Office Road - home, not surprisingly, of the local post office. A cottage hospital and court house also stood here at one time.

I lived in Tillgate from 1945 to about 1954. I lived in New Street, and my boyhood friends were Richard Freakes, John Denman, Michael and Graham Goring, Jeff and Billy Kowatch and Alfie Manzoli.
