Legend has it that the original Coventry Arms was in Sleight Lane, half-a-mile from here, and was moved on the orders of the Earl of Coventry, who lived nearby and found the customers too noisy. Today's customers can see, mounted behind glass, a cat's mummified corpse found during renovation work. It had been nailed to the rafters centuries ago to ward off evil spirits.
