More about this scene
The 17th-century Angel Inn stands at the east end of Middle Street and the start of Main Street, and is one of a number of interesting buildings around the area. In the churchyard stands a fortified vicarage built in 1318, and Heron House dates from 1700. To the south-west of the town stands the ruined Dilston Hall, home of the Earls of Derwentwater, the last of whom was executed for his role in the Jacobite rebellion of 1715.
