Clumber Park, The Dukeries c.1955

More about this scene
Clumber Park, like Rufford, is heavily wooded; it was enclosed out of Sherwood Forest, that great forest that extends from Worksop southwards almost to Nottingham. The soil is thin, sandy and infertile, but it suits slow-growing oak trees, birch and bracken. Of the Clumber estate's 3,800 acres over a thousand are woodland, while the great lake itself occupies 87 acres.
