More about this scene
Above the modern shopfronts and advertising signs, the picturesque assortment of buildings bear testimony to the city's rich history. Across the street is the entrance to Mercery Lane, with the overhanging beams of a former pilgrims' inn, the Chequer of Hope, which once stretched back to the Buttermarket. On the right, with a branch of Barclay's Bank on the corner, is Stour Street.
