More about this scene
The tour has to reach Bury by road, but until the 1950s you could get from Amberley to Bury by ferry. The wharf was restored in 1997 with concrete steps. In 1898 the house immediately to the right of the church was Bury Farm, with its farmyard of thatched buildings and a great tile-roofed barn. Today it is Dorset House School, radically transformed in around 1910 into a mansion, and its barn and the stables at the left converted to houses; the other farmbuildings have been demolished, and their site is occupied by school tennis courts.
