More about this scene
The village is viewed from the inland side of Burton Cliff, looking north-eastwards from above Dove Inn and Southover, to St Mary's Church (right). Shipton Hill is prominent on the distant skyline (centre). Manor Farm, Barr Lane and the Anchor Inn are partly hidden by trees in the middle distance (left). Burton was an estate village, owned by the Pitt-Rivers family of Hinton St Mary and Tollard Royal, until its sale in 1958.
