More about this scene
The little harbour of Burry Port was in times past a busy export terminal for tin and fine anthracite coal. Those days are over; the small port now serves as a pleasant boat marina. The obvious pride of Burry Port's stationmaster is typical of the time—it was considered the stationmaster's duty to make the platform as attractive as possible. This can be seen clearly in the rockery and floral arrangements shown here. The railway line west of Llanelli was the creation of the great days of the coal and tin plate trade.
