Burnley, Scott Park 1896

More about this scene
Scott Park was opened on 18 August 1895; it was named after Alderman Scott, who had died in 1891 leaving £10,000 in his will to open a public park. In this photograph it looks rather new and un-developed, as indeed it was at this time. Some said that Burnley did not need parks, as the Pennines of South Lancashire are only ten minutes away, and some lovely countryside surrounds the town.
