More about this scene
Before being overtaken by Plymouth a couple of decades earlier, Brixham was the leading fishing port in Devon. At one time, there were almost 300 trawlers employing 1600 seamen. Hundreds more workers on shore built and repaired the ships and manufactured sails and clothing, whilst the women knitted underwea and packed the fish.
