More about this scene
One of Bristol's more flamboyant characters was Richard Smith, chief surgeon at the Royal Infirmary, and a councillor from 1835 to 1843. His hobby was to write a rhyme relating to the career of every local criminal who had been executed and then sent to him for dissection. He would then bind the pages in the skin of the unfortunate felon.
