As much as any other, this view illustrates the timelessness of North Devon. Hang a B & B sign in front of the left-hand house, add a telephone pole, turn the downstairs window in the main house into a door covered by a pretty porch and, a century later, there is the view. Sadly, the children's delightful pinafores are consigned to history. Every one of the well-dressed children wears a hat: only the rather scruffy boy to the left is bare headed.

My Boy Hood In Caen Street And The London Inn

A Brauton Boy
I was born in Braunton in 1938. I am now 75 yrs of age residing in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire where I have lived for the past 42 years. I have visited many countries in my life including a National Service stint for two and half years in Hong Kong. Caen Primary School
My name is Julia Coles and I was born in the Nursing Home in Wrafton Road on 11 May 1954 to Edna and Phil Watchus. My father was in the RAF at Chivenor and I lived in Braunton until I left to work in Exeter in 1990. I remember Braunton so well, Caen Street with the Post Office on the left hand side. At Brannocks Chruch
Back in 2009, I brought my son down to North Devon to retrace the places my grandmother's family originated from. I had previously found references to generations of Manleys and my x 2 great grandfather was the church warden of St Brannock's. I was fortunate to find his grave in the grounds of St Brannock's and then spent a couple of hours wandering up and down the rows saying the names of those lying peacefully so they would know they were being remembered by a northern stranger.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
