More about this scene

Bramber Castle was built just after the Norman Conquest to defend the vulnerable and exposed coast of Sussex. The castle was held by the de Braose family until 1326, when it passed to Alice de Bohun and then to her eldest son. It was badly attacked by the Roundheads during the Civil War, and now all that remains is this 70ft-high gateway.
