The awnings are out at the far end of the street to protect the stock in the shop windows from the summer sunshine, and in the foreground we can see frames for the awnings that have not been put up yet. There are several customers for the tobacconist's on the right, and for Alun Jones's shop, a stationers and music sellers, while a horse and cart pauses at the shop on the left.

Another Tourist Killed In North Wales 1885 Lucy Margaret Marzials Died Age 15 Lancaster Gazette Saturday 29 August 1885

Edward Lloyd

My great grandfather, Edward Lloyd, emigrated to the United States from Ffestiniog. He was a famous tenor in his day and had high ranking with the Eisteddfod both in Wales, and later, in upstate, NY. I am told by a cousin, Dr. Alwyn Jones, that Lloyd descendants still reside in Teddy's boyhood home on 152/153 Manod Road. Nice memories. Post office behind the bus, across I think was Crosville depot. There was a billiard hall on bridge somewhere. Central School till war broke out then work; Joined RN, spell in Malta, was AA Man in Bettws Y Coed for couple of years then restless so Australia. Have been back twice now only one school friend in Manod - Frank Roberts. Now 86... so not much travel left. Wales, beautiful... but oh ...see more

Growing Up In Blaenau Ffestiniog. 1961
I was brought up in Blaenau Ffestiniog and lived there until 1971. The High Street photograph brings it all back. The shop on the extreme left of the photo was my mum's hairdressing shop and we lived in the flat above. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
