More about this scene
The carved inscription above the spouting water reads 'Bless ye the Lord, praise him and magnify.' Long before Christianity, springs were attributed with a spiritual significance. In pagan times the number seven was of special superstitious importance, and examples of Seven Springs are found at other places in the Cotswolds.
