More about this scene
The Eastern Electricity Board office occupies the Old White Horse pub (left). A typical East Anglian building with a pargetted facade made from low relief design pressed into the wet mortar, it dates from the 1500s, and contains some fine interior mouldings. Although the traffic is light, an early engraving shows a busy street choked with carriages and wagons when the road was much narrower and before many buildings were demolished for road widening in the early 1800s.
