Here the photographer looks west from the Town Hall, and we can see the extensive encroachment onto the market place. Its Royal charter was confirmed as long ago as 1227. All the central buildings occupy part of the original market place, which was bounded by the buildings at the far right and left. In the distance is the parish church. On the right is where the Great Fire of Biggleswade started in 1786, so many of the buildings are later than that date.
