Hunting Lollysticks In Danson Park
A Memory of Bexleyheath.
Danson Park was a much loved adventure playground throughout my Junior School years. There were so many fun diversions there for a young boy in the 1950's including one particular past-time which sadly I only have scant memories - collecting abandoned used lollysticks to use as a currency. The cafe in the big Danson House ran a scheme for kids, whereby they accepted used lollysticks picked up in the park to trade in for a drink, icecream or sweets. My problem is I have no clear recollection of the details, of just how many lollysticks were required for each swap. What I do remember though is spending hours, sometimes all day, scouring the park for what was considered treasure, If anyone remembers anything about this activity then please feel free to be in touch.
