More about this scene
Normanhurst 1891. Although built at Catsfield, Normanhurst was intimately connected with Hastings. It was built by Thomas Brassey, a successful railway contractor in a sort of French Second Empire style with French Renaissance overtones, complete with a tall tower. It was completed in 1870 and given to his son, also Thomas, then the MP for Hastings and later ennobled as Earl Brassey. The family claimed Norman descent on dubious grounds. The house was demolished in 1951. Seaside and Coastal Sussex: From Bosham to Rye
