More about this scene
Although most associate Bath's waters with the Georgian or Roman period, the spring-fed baths were very popular in Tudor and Stuart times. The King's Bath, seen here, dates from 1597, but little survives of the original. The ornate stone wellhead in the centre of the bath copies that in a well-known 17th-century print showing scenes of uninhibited mixed bathing.
