More about this scene
The church of St Martin le Tours, on the right, was consecrated in 1962. The clump of trees just in front of it marks the position of Barstable Cottage, one of the thousands of small tenements swept away by the New Town. It was entirely wooden apart from its chimney-stack. The Development Corporation bought it from the owners for £150.
