More about this scene
The Long Bridge over the broad waters of the River Taw was certainly built by 1300, but it may be a hundred years or more older. With sixteen stone arches, much of the original fabric survives after a widening in 1796. That it survives at all, carrying the volume of traffic that uses it today, speaks volumes for the skill of the ancient stonemasons.
