Vimto Days
A Memory of Ardwick.
My mum and dad Gladys and George Rodgers had the corner shop between Churchill Street and Mornington Street Chorlton on Medlock /Ardwick. Between 1960 -1969 it was a very busy shop and I have some great memories of playing on the road popping tar bubbles (not much traffic then ) and mum sending me to the pork butchers on Stockport road for hot savoury ducks. Sometime mum would take me to the Tripe shop as a treat ! Not sure I 'd like it now and some times I would ride to the Vimeo shop on Hyde Road for the best Vimto lolly ever ! I Went to St Joseph's Junior school Plymouth grove and later my brother Mike and I went to Stafford House Victoria Park and St Pope Pius for my last year. After school I would help mum and dad in the shop, people would have items on tick and pay on a Friday night when they got paid they would give dad their money to put in our safe ! I remember Ardwick Market, The Devonshire Pub and Chiappies chip shop near the Appollo where I learnt to ballroom dance. I can still smell the vinegar works . Great memories I could write a book.
