More about this scene

The tour moves south-west to Alfriston, situated in the River Cuckmere valley where the river cuts through the South Downs chalk. The village is well-known for the National Trust-owned Clergy House, which was in fact the very first building the Trust acquired: it bought the house in 1896 for the princely sum of £10. The jettied building on the left is the Star Inn, whose 15th-century timbers were exposed after this view was taken during a careful restoration of the building. By Victorian times the village's smuggling days were over.

Aunty Mabel
1950's to the 90's. My holidays in Alfriston began in the 50's through to 60's.We stayed with my auntie, Mabel Norman and uncle Bob. William Edwin Pimm Resident Of Alfriston Sussex
This is a story about William Edwin Pimm 1864-1952 who lived in the village in the 1930’s and went to Miami in 1940. My Memories Of Burnt House Farm Alfriston Circa 1938
I remember being taken down to Alfriston in the 1930s before the Second World War. My great-aunt and great-uncle, Polly and Arthur Newell, had a smallholding on the downs, about half a mile from the village, where they kept chickens and ducks, and a few sheep. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
