More about this scene

Another view of the London Road reveals the Trafford Arms on the left, an unofficial club for the gardeners who worked in the villas. They gathered here at lunchtime, only dispersing when the local builders, Isaac Massey and Son, sounded its one o`clock hooter. In the background is the Institute, built by villa owners for St Philip`s church to provide a respectable teetotal place for the villa maids to spend their weekly free afternoons.

Heyes Lane

I lived at 100 heyes lane. Alderley edge. For about five years from 1950 to 1955. Went to Alderley edge school. Teacher mrs Gibson. My name then was Ann Christina Taylor. My father grew vegetables on his allotment. He worked for ICI in wilmslow. I remember a man selling goldfish in bottles at the entrance to school lane. Head Boy And Head Girl
This photo has troubled me for quite a long time. I spent my childhood in Alderley and the surrounding countryside and I feel this young boy is me. Unfortunately the date doesn't stack up, if it is me it would have been about 1965 and the girl was called Christine. Only she could verify! Thank you for your enquiry. Croston Towers
I have long sought information about one of the great Victorian villas of Alderley Edge, the house named Croston Towers in the centre of the large plot bounded by Woodbrook Road, Tempest Road and Macclesfield Road. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
