More about this scene
Dr Boddington was a local man; in 1840 he wrote a pioneering paper on the treatment of TB, then known as pulmonary consumption. He advocated open-air treatment and successfully put his ideas into practice in his sanatorium (demolished in 1935) at Maney. He saved numerous lives before the advent of modern drugs revolutionised the treatment of the disease.
