Cotmandene Cresent

A Memory of St Paul's Cray.

We lived at 9 Cotmandene Cresent from the late 50's to 1968(ish). Went To Midfield Secondary School from 1960-64. Bought my first record, a 78rpm by Little Richard, at Electrico in Cotmandene High Street. Had friends in Whippendale Way, Longberry Drive and Shoreham Road. Used to get the 229 bus into Sidcup regularly. Went back for a visit in 2004, the school was still there. Cotmandene High Street looked the same as I remembered it, and wondered what had happened to some of the friends I had way back then.

I saw cottmandene crescent being built! Early 1950s.i started at the brand new midfield school 1952/3 . I remember sometime in the early 1960s a post office van parked in cottmandene rolled down the hill and hit a pram outside woolworths.the baby died I'm sad to say. I met a lovely lady called Sandra Newton who lived atl liethhill just off mickleham drive.she was so pretty! She was 15 and I was 17 in 1959.i met her outside the chip shop in cottmandene in may 1959. I had just bought my pride and joy my Norton 600 motor bike! She came over and spoke to me. IV never forgotten Sandra such a lovely young lady.years later when I was a train driver in the 1970s/80s I was driving a late night train from Holborn viaduct and I let people ride in the gaurds brake behind my cab as the train was packed. Got talking to someone and they said they new Sandra and she was sadly in a wheelchair. I do wonder if she is still around?
