Chandos Street

A Memory of Slough.

There was a little pet shop in Chandos Street. I bought a kitten there for half a crown and took her home to our house in the Uxbridge Road. My parents were very annoyed and I had to return her. In this picture is Crown Corner, the road to the left is the Windsor Road. Chandos Street would be behind the photographer to the right. I was born in Slough in 1951, we lived first at 27 Lascelles Road, I remember vividly riding my tricycle up and down it, and left there when I was 8. We then moved to a bungalow, 41 Uxbridge Road, now under a roundabout, and then to 8 Wexham Road when I was 14. My parents lived there till their deaths and I lived on in the house after my father died till 2001. I went to St Mary's, Herschel Street, then to Slough High, a building I dreamed about fo r many years, until I finally paid a visit there to find the school site semi-derelict and open to wanderers...so I went all around my old classrooms and playing fields. One week after my visit the school was demolished and is now part of an industrial park. I never dreamed about it again... My father was a well known piano teacher and my mother worked at Baylis House. I also remember Baylis Lido very well.
