More about this scene
Building started on the abbey in 1100. It was the first to be founded after the Norman Conquest, and it was not completed until 1935. Along the way it was abandoned in the dissolution of 1539, the tower collapsed in 1690 and there was a major fire here in 1906. This is now a lost view because of the tree growth in the park. Selby Abbey is now regarded as a world heritage site.
