I was baptized, made my first commmunion and was confirmed, at St Anne's Church. I was chosen to be May Queen. I crowned our Lady on May 7, 1961. That same year I went to St. Bede's School in September 1961. I then joined the Handmaids of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Anne's Church. I also sang in the church choir. My brother Mario and sister Rosetta where also baptized in St. Annes Church.
I am interested in contacting the lady, Margarite Cooke, who said that she used to live at Quarry Mount childrens home.
The house address when I was there, between 1947 and 1957, was Quarry Mount, Greetby Hill, ORMSKIRK, Lancs. The house belonged originally to Lord Stoker and was given to the Church of England Children's Society but I'm not sure just when, but prior to my arrival.

I was born and bred in Ormskirk and attended St Anns School in Hants Lane. When I was 12, St Bedes School opened and I went there. I remember it being very big compared to St Anns. Mr Collange was the Headmaster, other teachers were Mr Croft, he went on to be Head years later, Miss Beasley, Mr O'Conner - they were both pe teachers - I really enjoyed my stay there. I did go to a reunion for St Bedes about six or seven years ago - met quite a few old faces from my school days.
1959-1963 - I remember my teachers - Miss Newall, Mr Parkinson, Mr Glazer and finally Mr Hesketh (class 4A1); and the Headmaster, whose name I thought was Harrison, but others remember him as Henderson, so perhaps I am wrong. He taught us country dancing, which I loved enormously. I also loved singing in Mr Sellary's choir (home-made pink check gingham frocks for the girls), and we won a few competitions, I think. ...see more
I was born in Ormskirk 1959, My parents were John & June Carr of Sephton Drive, we lived at number 21. I have five brothers. We attended West End, and Crosshall High School, My Grandfather Thomas Gabbitas lived near the Gas works in Aughton Street (up the Yard) if anyone remembers the yard. I moved to Ormskirk in the 1960s from St Helens. My name was then Whitehead - one not to be forgotten! I remember Mr Henderson, he was a gentle man. I loved my class teacher Mrs Sykes, she read lovely stories at the end of each day - I looked forward to this time, which is maybe why I adore reading now. My name is Andrea Parkinson. I was born in 1962, I went to Greetby Hill Primary School until I was 9 years old. The swimming pool was not ready when I left. My headmaster at the time was Mr Pilkington (I think). My family moved to South Australia under the 'ten pound pom' scheme. I now live in Western Australia but have fond memories of my early school days. I use to live at 12 Elm Place, Ormskirk.
I was a pupil starting in 1952 at the knowledgable age of 11. I used to walk every morning from Whittle Drive on the Scott Estate, I was there 4 years then went on to Bootle Technical College when I was 14. Of the teachers I can only remember one, a Mr Fogg for Tech drawing, could have been a Mr Thomas or a Mr Clegg. Anyone seeing this check out my homepage www.familyfinch.com
I was one of a group of motorcyclists (the Lilacs) from Ormskirk who used to ride up Church Street, together there would have been 12-15 bikes, these were loud to say the least with the echo from the buildings in this narrow street. Now I think the residents must have been not amused. If anyone else sees this and was a member check out my homepage, or anyone that knew me. www.familyfinch.com
I was put into Ormskirk Orphanage at the age of 2 around 1952 and wonder if anyone has a photo of this place (inside or out) or any information, as I am doing a family history. Margaret
