More about this scene
Lyme Regis features a great deal in English literature, being the setting of Jane Austen's novel 'Persuasion' and John Fowles's 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Few who saw the film version of the latter will forget the scene where the enigmatic heroine, played by Meryl Streep, stood braving a storm at the end of the Cobb—Lyme's harbour wall.
