More about this scene
The long-running TV comedy, 'Last of the Summer Wine', had not put Holmfirth on the tourist map when this photograph of the main square was taken. But even before Compo and Co arrived, Holmfirth had achieved fame as the home of Bamforth's comic postcards, and as the scene of the earliest awakenings of the British film industry.
