Dating from 1857, this viaduct once carried one of the busiest railways in South Wales. The line is long-since closed, but this towering sixteen-arch structure stands as a lasting reminder of Victorian skill and energy.

Hi I'm trying to find out any information at all that you might have. My Mother(born at Hengoed) was sadly put in a home in what I would presume to be 1965, the year of her birth as far as I'm aware she was Adopted in 1967 at the age of 2, her birth name was Avril Mandy Jones apparently and she is half cast/mixed race. I know little about it and I would be very grateful for any information that I receive, thanks
I lived in Bryn Glas for ten years after passing the 11+ to go to Lewis School for girls. Memories - I have lots, and it is lovely to come back home. Sitting on the Graig counting the cars (and there weren't many), travelling up Tredomen hill towards Nelson. Really enjoyed the Boys Club on a Thursday night -sixpence to get in. My most vivid memory of Hengoed Viaduct was when I travelled by train over the viaduct (Hengoed High Level) to Stoke on Trent in the summer of 1961. The whole family went and we stayed at my father's step-brother's home in Burton on Trent.

I lived in number 5 Hawthorn Ave from 1957 with my brother and 2 sisters, my name then was ENID PUGH. We moved to Myrtle Grove after many years. I went to Hengoed primary school then Bargod Grammar School. I remember going dancing to the boys' club in Ystrad Mynach. I left Hengoed to go nursing. I now live in Australia with my family. I am returning to Hengoed in June this year to visit after 40 years!!
