Brent Bridge Hotel, Hendon

A Memory of Hendon.

The hotel was situated on Brent Street, the North side of the A406 North Circular Road in Hendon. I had a friend whose mother was Scottish, and his father was German with the surname Krupp who was Head Waiter at the hotel; at the start of the Second World War he was interned to the Isle of Man for the duration of the war.
In 1943-44-45 I used to deliver early morning newspapers to the hotel.
Re the photograph, on the right hand side one can see an angled window; just there used to be the entrance (before they bricked it up) with steps leading into the Ballroom where dances were held for residents and the general public. Further along to the right (out of shot) was a delicatessen shop. I remember it more for selling Lyon's Ice Cream in a cone for about two (old) pence.

I went to several wedding banquets there because it was a favourite of the Jewish community in Hendon and Golders Green.
Can’t believe I found this. My mother worked there at the end of WW2. She told me about it when I was a child. She was a chamber maid and the housekeeper was a Jewish lady, very strict by all accounts. That notwithstanding my mother had found memories of the hotel, I believe the owners were Jewish. My mother left to return home to Jarrow, but she loved her time in London. Quite an adventure for a young working class Geordie
