At its height in the 19th and early 20th century, Halifax was the greatest of the textile towns of West Yorkshire, a centre for woollen manufacture and clothing, larger even than Leeds or Bradford. The Victorian wealth of the town is shown in the fine buildings in this view of the main shopping street, with the Halifax Building Society, which started here, prominent on the right.

Simpsons In Halifax

Joyce Sutcliffe lived in Halifax and worked at Simpsons around 1941. She was called up to the Royal Army Signals in 1942 aged 21. Also Robert Bell worked there and went into the Navy. Other people were Frank Southwell, Owen Southwell, Grace Priestly,Ronniie Gethin. If you know of these people I would love to hear from you. Thank you.
