More about this scene
At the cross-roads is the entrance to the town. On the right is the Mole Valley Council Offices, opened in 1984; the building is not in keeping with the character of the town, but architecturally it is a good design. Opposite is the Dorking Halls, designed by Percy W Meredith in Art Deco style and opened in January 1931 (see 87292 opposite). There is a bronze tablet in the entrance hall to the memory of Ralph Vaughan Williams OM (1872-1958) and at the entrance stands a bronze statue of the composer whitch was errected in April 2001. The Leith Hill Musical Festival was founded in 1905 by Lady Margaret Farrer of Abinger Hall, Vaughan Williams's sister.
