More about this scene
Leading up Pier Avenue from the Marine Parade corner, the first pair of houses on the left, known as Clarence Villas, was built in 1874. It was later converted into the Clarence Restaurant and a newspaper, office for Clacton's first newspaper the 'Clacton Gazette'. Between the wars the buildings became famous as the Corner House Café. They are now the site of a night club.
